Professor Katzenstein has been involved with early-stage technology enterprises for over two decades, as an investor, advisor, active board member, and founder of a number of successful ventures. Her main focus in academic endeavors has been entrepreneurship education.

She holds a Masters in Law and Diplomacy from Tufts University, and a PhD in International Economics from the Graduate Institute of International Studies at the University of Geneva. She was awarded a visiting doctoral scholarship to the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.
